Seamless Wireless AV Install
The Challenge The Midlands based client required a complete upgrade of their meeting room and open-plan office technology to support modern hybrid working. Key requirements included rock-solid wireless coverage, wall-mounted large-screen TVs with clean connectivity to under-desk floor boxes, and additional power provision – all while minimising disruption to a busy working environment. Specific needs: • Reliable Wi-Fi coverage via 4 new enterprise-grade wireless access points (WAPs) • Installation of 18 new Cat 6 data outlets • Creation of a new power ring main feeding 6 new double sockets • Professional wall-mounting of 4 large TVs • Relocation of 2 existing floor boxes • Concealed connection from each TV to its floor box (1 × HDMI, 1 × USB-C, 1 × Cat 6 data) • Testing and remediation of existing faulty floor-box outlets in one meeting room Pre-Installation: Detailed Wi-Fi Scoping Survey Before any quotation or work commenced, ONS Group carried out a comprehensive on-site Wi-Fi scoping survey. Using professional predictive modelling software and physical heat-mapping tools, we identified optimal access-point locations (AP1–AP4) to deliver blanket coverage across the open-plan areas and meeting rooms, eliminating existing dead zones and ensuring capacity for high-density device usage. This survey formed the foundation of the design and gave the client full confidence that the proposed solution would meet – and exceed – their performance expectations. Scope of Works Delivered All works were completed by ONS Group’s in-house team of data, electrical and AV engineers: • Installed and terminated 18 new Cat 6 U/UTP outlets into existing comms cabinet and new faceplates/backboxes • Mounted and configured 4 new wireless access points in the pre-surveyed optimal locations • Installed a new 32A RCBO-protected ring main with 6 new double switched sockets • Wall-mounted 4 large TVs using heavy-duty brackets • Ran concealed power and data above false ceilings with neat white PVC trunking drops to TV height and down to relocated floor boxes • Relocated 2 floor boxes exactly as requested (one 1 m behind a desk, one directly under a meeting table) • Supplied and installed HDMI, USB-C and Cat 6 fly leads from each TV to its floor box • Tested and repaired 4 existing faulty ports in a meeting-room floor box • Fully labelled, tested and certified every new circuit and data outlet All cabling was routed neatly through existing basket tray and containment wherever possible, maintaining a clean and professional finish. Project Execution • Works carried out over an agreed 5-day period during normal office hours • Zero disruption to daily operations – rooms were handed back each evening in full working order • Full adherence to health & safety and COVID-safe working practices The Result The project was delivered on time and to an exceptionally high standard.
